Recently it is reported by many studies that obesity may well take over as the top cancer cause and considerably increase the risk of different types of cancers. Smoking accounts for around 30% of cancer deaths but is expected to come down as more people are quitting it.

Dr. Walter Willett, Harvard scientist said that , “As cigarette smoking rates fall and obesity rates rise, fatness may soon take over as the top cause of cancer in America.” at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science this year.

According to Willett, the Associated Press reports at present 14% of cancer deaths in men and 20% in women are linked to obesity.

The study reveals that obesity will not only increase the risk of some common cancers such as breast or kidney cancers but it will give rise to less common cancers like blood, skin, pancreas, gallbladder, and colorectal cancers.

It is reported by the studies that obesity will increase the risk of kidney, thyroid and esophageal cancer in man. And in women this will increase the risk of kidney, uterine and esophageal cancer.
