Yes, the truth is finally out of the bag – researchers from the Johns Hopkins University are of the opinion that mushrooms can aid weight loss. A study conducted on about 5o volunteers revealed that mushrooms did not only contain lesser calories but though not too hungry, those who ate mushroom-lunches for 4 continuous days seem to have consumed fewer calories on the whole.
As per the study, the volunteers were divided into two groups where some were fed with meat-based lunches for 4 days and other who ate mushroom lunches for 4 days continuously.
Eventually it was found that even though the portion size was the same for both kinds of lunches, mushrooms contained 444 fewer calories. In addition, volunteers sticking to the mushroom lunches also seemed to have consumed fewer calories on the whole, which meant that they felt satisfied and full with the amount of mushrooms consumed and didn’t feel the urge to binge on unhealthy or otherwise fatty foods.
As researchers put it, in terns of the energy and fat intake, the meat-based lunches worked better than the mushroom lunches. However, in terms of satisfaction, taste and appetite was concerned, both lunches showed similar results. What could lead to mushrooms being so healthy?
Experts suggest that mushrooms are high on carbs, relatively high on proteins and least in fats. What is contained in mushroom thereby helps not only in devouring a tasty and satisfying meal but in allowing you to fit into lean clothes irrespective of how many cups or pieces of mushrooms you may have consumed during your meal.
