Brains Shrinking in Overweight Individuals

A new study discovered that people who are obese have 8% less brain tissue when compared to those who have a normal weight or BMI. Futhermore, overweight individuals have 4% less brain tissue when compared with normal weight individuals. Scientists called this phenomenon as severe brain degeneration.” They found that not only the brains of the obese people were smaller, but they also aged prematurely. A bad diet primarily consisting of processed food, along with a sedentary lifestyle was the chief reason for obesity in several cases.

Harmful Diet – Processed Foods

A poor diet mainly consists of man-made chemicals. In reality, processed food contains artificial chemicals to increase the shelf-life of the product. These artificial chemicals not only consist of preservatives, but also include chemicals for color and flavor. Many processed foods contain unknown chemicals which fall under artificial flavors label. Several processed foods contain certain genetically altered compounds which are unnatural for the digestive system to encounter, and result in degenerative processes taking place in the body.

A healthy diet comprises of whole grains, nuts, vegetables and fresh fruits. The ideal way to consume a clean diet is to shop for organic products which contain very few chemicals. The processing of food changes the natural structure of the food particle which is what leads to health problems.

Obesity and Processed Foods

Researchers are trying to find out whether it is the body fat which is causing the brains to shrink or the artificial chemicals found in the processed foods which are the prime reason for the initial weight gain. They are trying to establish a link between the diseases associated with obesity and the consumption of processed food.
