Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is also called the low-carb diet. The premise is that a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet reduces hunger and increases fat burning. There are four stages in the Atkins diet:

  • Induction phase
  • The ongoing weight loss
  • The pre-maintenance phase
  • The lifetime phase

During the initial phase, carbohydrate consumption is reduced to 20 grams per day. During the later phases, it is slowly increased by including other foods in the diet.

Cabbage Soup Diet
This soup diet is one the most popular fad diets. In this diet plan, you must consume cabbage soup for seven days. The low-calorie cabbage soup can be prepared in a variety of ways and is eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the cabbage soup diet, you are advised not to eat any solid food. Because of the limitations of this brief diet, you should take a multivitamin tablet to make sure you are getting adequate nutrition. The cabbage soup diet should not be followed for more than seven days.

Lemonade Diet
The lemonade diet is also called the Master Cleanse Diet and is touted as a “detox” diet. On the lemonade diet, you consume only a special lemonade made with fresh lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Solid foods are eliminated entirely.

Raw Food Diet:
The raw food diet is a vegan diet where a person consumes only raw foods. Some of the raw foods that are allowed are fresh vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, dried fruits, grains, seaweed and coconut milk. Processed foods and animal products are completely eliminated. Proponents claim that the benefits of the raw food diet include improved skin texture, weight loss and increased energy.

Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a popular eating plan that calls for a highly specific fixed amount of calories from each of carbohydrates, protein and fat. On the Zone, you eat 40 percent of calories from carbohydrates and 30 percent from each of protein and fat.
