This happens because the estrogen hormone is stored in fat and the stage of perimenopause approach the body tries to hold the fat cells by boosting the decreasing levels of estrogen in the body. It is for the same reason that it is necessary to maintain the levels of estrogen in the body in order to avoid weight gain.
